Carbon Copy/Net for Windows Version 3.0 (Netscape Edition) README.TXT Thank you for using Carbon Copy/Net (Netscape Edition) by Microcom. Carbon Copy/Net lets you remotely control another PC over the Internet. With Carbon Copy/Net, you can access another PC located across the country or around the world as if you were sitting in front of the other PC. Carbon Copy/Net is ideal for remote access, remote support, collaboration, remote software demonstrations and more. Please note that performance can vary depending on Internet traffic. After you have installed Carbon Copy/Net, you can now use the Carbon Copy Netscape plug-in to access another PC from within your Netscape browser. To use the plug-in, go to Microcom's home page at: www.microcom.com Microcom also markets Carbon Copy for Windows and DOS software that allows you to access another PC directly via a modem and phone line, a direct connect cable and also over the LAN. These versions also allow users to transfer files between PCs, view remote control sessions in a full screen, along with printing from one location to another. Once you reach the plug-in section on the Micrcom home page, you will have several options: 1) Call Another PC ------------------ If you want you want to access another PC, this is the option you should choose. The other PC located across the country or around the world must be connected to the Internet with a Netscape browser and also be in the "Wait for Call" mode. In order to call the other PC, you must enter the TCP/IP address of the other PC. You can find out the TCP/IP address of the other PC by choosing Communications from the Carbon Copy Options menu on the other PC and viewing the TCP/IP address. Once connected, you will be able to remotely control the other PC in a Window that will appear on your screen. Simply scroll around the window to access applications and documents on the other PC. 2) Call Microcom Demo PC ------------------------ If you want to test drive remote control with Carbon Copy/Net, but you do not have another PC set up to access, choose this option. You will be able to access demo PCs set up at Microcom to experience the benefits of remote control. Once connected, you will be able to remotely control the Microcom demo PC in a Window that will appear on your screen. Simply scroll around the window to access applications and documents on the demo PC. 3) Wait for Call ---------------- If you would like to make your PC available for another user to access, choose this option. Carbon Copy/Net Host will automatically enter into the "Wait for Call" mode. The other user will now able to connect to your PC. NEW FEATURES IN CARBON COPY 3.0 FULL PRODUCT ============================================ Windows 95 Support ------------------ Carbon Copy for Windows 3.0 is fully compatible with Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system. Carbon Copy supports cross-connections from Windows 95 to Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups and vice-versa. Remote Control Enhancements --------------------------- Carbon Copy Remote Control has been significantly enhanced from Carbon Copy 2.5. Remote Control is now up to five times faster than in previous versions, and no longer replaces drivers in the SYSTEM.INI file. You can also choose to view the Remote Control window in Full-Screen or Windowed mode. Remote Control now supports 64K (Hi-Color) and 16M (True-Color) modes. Remote Printing --------------- The Remote Printing feature allows you to print files from any application to the printer at the Host location, the printer at the Guest location, or to printers at both locations. For example, you could use Remote Printing if you are away from your office, but want to print a document located on your office PC to the printer at your current location. Simply connect to your office PC, and set up Remote Printing to send the document to the printer at your current location. Remote Drive Access ------------------- Remote Drive Access allows you to share selected drives and directories. Set up any drive and directory on your PC for sharing with a remote computer using the Drive Sharing dialog box. After setting up drives and directories for sharing, you can then use the Carbon Copy drive mapping options to redirect the drive to a remote PC. The redirected drive will appear as a local drive on the remote PC. Microcom Scripting ------------------ The Microcom Scripting language allows you to write programs to automate Carbon Copy procedures. For example, you could create a script that will automatically place a call to a remote PC and transfer a file. File Transfer Enhancements -------------------------- Carbon Copy File Transfer has been significantly enhanced from Carbon Copy 2.5. File Transfer now includes file synchronization, drag and drop directory transfers, recursive directory transfers and crash recovery, and is much faster than in previous versions. Modem Wizard ------------ The Modem Wizard makes Carbon Copy installation easier by automatically detecting your modem type for you and configuring it correctly. You can use the Modem Wizard during installation, or anytime after installation if you change your modem type, or connect your modem to a different port. Security Enhancements --------------------- You can now set multiple levels of security in Carbon Copy. All the global security options are conveniently located in the Security Options dialog box. You can set individual security options on the Password Table, by setting up a customized user profile for each user. You can also customize the Carbon Copy Event Log to keep track of any events that take place during connections. Uninstall Program ----------------- Use the Uninstall program to remove all Carbon Copy 3.0 components from your PC. The Uninstall procedure is completely automated. Uninstall is useful if you want to free disk space on your PC, and no longer want Carbon Copy installed on your PC. Load Upon Windows Startup ------------------------- Use the "Load upon Windows Startup" feature to start Carbon Copy running on Windows 95 prior to the Network login prompt. This feature is useful in conjunction with the "Reboot On Disconnect" feature. It allows you to remotely control a Network login on to Windows 95. End of File
